MUSIC & SOUND DESIGN
The Be A Buddy ad campaign for 2020 is a PSA style piece, aimed at engaging the viewer from start to finish to really get across the intended message of the film. With that in mind, we wanted the music to grab you immediately and not let go until the final logo!
Our good friend Sam (@samjdrums) is an amazingly talented Jazz drummer who we had the pleasure of doing a remote recording session with during lockdown number 2 of 2020. With the range of solo drum tracks we had recorded, we decided to create a fast-paced mix of 3 pieces. Moments of bebop-style beats flow into quick, 2 bar fills which flow straight into driving rhythmic beats, keeping engagement at a max throughout the ad.
The sound design adds a combination of foley, dubbing and sound fx to complete the soundscape. Foley is added to football kicks, headers and catches to add energy to these moments. Audio dubbing of some dialogue allows the lines to be read with close-mic despite the actors and talent standing far from the lens which adds to the conviction of the intended message. The sound fx exaggerate actions and add a playfulness to the film. Cartoon-is zooms, windows smashing and cats meowing all add to the light-hearted way in which the important message is being told.
‘Bepop Beat’ and ‘Solo’ are available to license on the library.
